Background:  The Serrao family original lived near a ridge or chain of hills. The name was originally derived from the Old French world Serre, but it was recorded in medieval documents in the Latin form Serra, which means ridge or mountain dweller. First found in Castile, the medieval Spanish kingdom whose language and culture were to spread through many countries of the world.

This surname comes from the family of Mouras, a village in Portugal. D. Martin Rodrigues, the Order of Calatrava master was son Vasco Martins S. de Moura, principal gentleman of his time, that was found in the achievements of the Kingdom whose services were the landlord of some places in the Minho province. He had mercy of the commander's residence de Moura that failed to take hold. He married Maria Dias de Gois, daughter of Pedro Salvador and his wife Maria of Esposade. Vasco Martin and his wife being established in Seville in the year 1264, a bond and left generation.
